            Bałagan myślowy

Studia rozpoczęłam na Uniwersytecie im. A. Mickiewicza, gdzie ukończyłam pierwszy rok psychologii. Przebywałam później przez rok jako “visiting student” w St. Hilda’s College na Uniwersytecie Oksfordzkim studiując psychologię i filozofię – a stamtąd przeniosłam się na Uniwersytet Harvarda (a raczej – z racji mej płci – do Radcliffe College) skąd otrzymałam stopień licencjacki (A.B.) z filozofii. Doktorat (z filozofii działania) obroniłam w Instytucie Filozofii na University of Pittsburgh. Przez następne lata zajmowałam się córeczkami, prowadząc zajęcia z filozofii na University of Southern Mississippi, gdzie wykładał mój były mąż. Jednym z najwspanialszych (jeśli nie najwspanialszym) doświadczeniem mego życia akademickiego była możliwość podjęcia nauki w jednej ze Szkół Zjednoczonego Świata (United World College of the Atlantic). Misją tych szkół jest promowanie zrozumienia międzynarodowego i szeroko rozumianej pracy na rzecz innych. Wszystkim zainteresowanym mogę wiele dobrego o tych szkołach powiedzieć. To doświadczenie na pewno zmieniło moją postawę życiową – zmieniło głęboką pesymistkę, która mocno przeżyła m.in. internowanie swego ojca, w pesymistkę z optymizmem drzemiącym w głębi duszy. Miałam też wielkie szczęście mieć paru wspaniałych przyjaciół, po prostu dobrych ludzi.

I began my university studies at Uniwersytet im. A. Mickiewicza in Poznań, where I completed the first year (with a concentration on psychology). I was then a visiting student at St. Hilda’s College at the University of Oxford where I studied psychology and philosophy. From there I have moved to the US – I knew that I wanted to study philosophy and that I did not want to do so in Poland, where philosophy studies were indoctrinated at that time.  I have received my A.B. in philosophy from Harvard University (or rather Radcliffe College). I then went to graduate school at the Department of Philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh. After I defended my dissertation, I have taken care of my two daughters. At that time I have offered some courses in philosophy at the University of Southern Mississippi, where my ex-husband taught at the time. At present, I teach philosophy at the University of Warsaw. One of the (if not the) most wonderful educational experiences of my life was the opportunity to go one of the United World Colleges (Atlantic College). The mission of these schools is the promotion of international understanding and social service broadly understood. I have many wonderful things to say about it. The school has certainly changed my outlook on life. It turned a deep pessimist, who has lived through among others her father’s political imprisonment, into a pessimist with a deep optimistic base. I have been very lucky to have had some wonderful and remarkable friends, truly good people.
